I have always seen my animal masks (except for ones based on actual characters etc) as a kind of representation of Mother Nature, or as her warriors.
Often they have a dark sense to them. These beings are not evil in any way, they just judge you, us. They are champions and spirits of the forest. We don’t notice them when they are one with nature, slumbering. But the humans destruction of nature is waking them up, disrupting them, and they are not pleased with us.
This mask is hand made: the fox head was sculpted by me, then molded and “cast” in my own paper clay – a kind of papier mâché that I make myself from mainly repurposed paper.
